Watch: ‘I am completely against the idea of conversion therapy’ – Beppe Fenech Adami

"I am completely against the idea of conversion therapy," said PN Deputy Leader, Dr Beppe Fenech Adami in comments to The Malta Independent.

Following the harsh position the PN had taken against divorce and its abstention from voting in favour of civil unions, the current PN stance on criminalizing conversion therapy is different from the conservative stands it had taken in the past.

After explaining that the civil union abstention was due to disagreeing on the case of adoption, and not on civil union as a whole and admitting that, on a personal note, Dr Fenech Adami voted against divorce in parliament, Dr Fenech Adami insisted that there is no correlation between the past issues and the current vote.

TMI also pointed out the historic correlation between the PN and the church in terms of moral stands. In response, Dr Fenech Adami said that both the church and political parties have their own important roles in society and there is no reason why the two must work hand in hand or be dependent on each other.

The PN deputy leader said that recent political history in Malta points towards secularisation, and he firmly believes that the distinction between church and state must be defined and kept.
