Large, central St Julian’s police station covering Paceville and surrounding areas mooted

There are many ideas floating around in discussions between the Ministry for Home Affairs and National Security, the General Retailers and Traders Union and the Malta Tourism Authority about the future of security in Paceville, with a large central police station being one of them.

In an interview with The Malta Independent, published in today's newspaper, Deputy President of GRTU, Philip Fenech, speaks about potential security measures currently being suggested.

Following the infamous PlusOne crush, there has been a call for a larger police station closer to Malta's entertainment Mecca. Although nothing is set in stone as of yet, there are meetings going on between the three aforementioned bodies and many suggestions are being made.

One particular suggestion in collaboration with the St Julian's, Pembroke and Swieqi council is the idea of a large, central police station to replace the existing one in Spinola which can cover all three localities, including Paceville.

Among the many ideas put forward, a Paceville police station was mentioned, but also more CCTV coverage of the area.

"Something very important with this regard is the need for more surveillance cameras in the area. The idea is to have a control room with 24 hour monitoring in real time. There will be a policeman in the room as well who will be in direct contact with the police and will handle problems as they happen or even before they happen," said Mr Fenech
