Stalker acquitted of attempting to burgle same house three times

A 39-year-old man from Guinea who was jailed for stalking a Ħamrun couple has been acquitted of attempting to burgle their house three times in three months. Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech heard how Abou Diallo had allegedly tried to break into Carmel and Erminia Borg's house in Ħamrun on July 18, August 22 and September 23, 2014. While out on bail, the accused had continued to hound out the couple.He had later admitted to charges of harassment and stalking, for which he had been handed an eight-month prison sentence in March 2015. The Borg couple had testified to seeing a black man loitering in the area on several occasions around the time of the alleged break-in. Ms Borg had testified to finding the accused in the verandah of her house on one occasion and, on another, in the bedroom at night. As she screamed, the intruder had allegedly leapt out of the open window. The woman had insisted to the court that she had "felt she was being stalked." Mr Borg told the court how he was woken up in the middle of the night by his wife, who told him that she had seen someone inside the house and that he had subsequently called the police.
