Libyan who is already serving time in prison denies breaking into house and stealing items

A 39-year-old Libyan man today pleaded not guilty to breaking into a Birzebbuga house and stealing a number of items

Ahmed Tarek Migre Ftis, from Tripoli, Libya, was charged with stealing a computer, watches, cameras and jewellery worth more than €2,300 in total. The theft took place in September. The man was also charged with relapsing.

The accused told the court he is a part-time plasterer registered at the Hal Far Open Centre. He is currently serving a prison sentence over another case. Sources said this was the fourth time he was arraigned.

Legal Aid lawyer Patrick Valentino said the accused was not requesting bail since he was already serving time in prison.

Inspectors Saviour Baldacchino and Melvyn Camilleri prosecuted. Magistrate Charmaine Galea presided over the arraignment.
