Massive insurance fraud case being heard in court, more than 40 people involved

Around 40 people are appearing in court this morning in connection with a massive case of insurance fraud.

The case is linked to "staged accidents" which were uncovered by a group of insurance companies after realising that claims were being file by the same people.

It is understood that the racked was uncovered after insurance firms found that some individuals had filed accident claims on several vehicles they owned. People were also agreeing to be involved in "traffic accidents" and would then file separate claims with their own insurance agencies. The evidence was then handed over to the police.

The case is being heard before Magistrate Aaron Bugeja.
