Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando has defended his non-attendance at a Public Accounts Committee meeting in which the workings of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, which he chairs.
36 hours after his non-appearance, which led to the suspension of the meeting, the MCST chairman said that he was not asked to attend that particular session.
The MCST issued a statement this morning:
"With reference to the Malta Council for Science and Technology's participation in the Public Accounts Committee meeting held last Tuesday 1 March 2016, the Council would like to clarify that Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando was not asked to attend for this particular session.
"The invitation was sent to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education and Employment, Mr Joe Caruana, and Mr Mario Borg, who is the Chief Administrative Officer at the Council, was sent to provide him with all the support necessary.
"Mr Borg was chosen since he was the official in charge of liaising with the NAO during their work related to the MCST audit. Dr Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando will be looking forward to giving any input required during the forthcoming meeting, since the Opposition members have indicated that they would prefer to address their questions to him."
