
Music, when sung well, may be uplifting and celebratory. The sounds of musical pieces rise to the ceiling of the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Naxxar. The St Paul Choral Society is busy rehearsing for its concert being held on Friday at 7.30pm in aid of the Archbishop's Seminary's newly-established fund: the Mortimer and de Giorgio Fund. Under the direction of Hugo Agius Muscat, this renowned Maltese polyphonic choir will be singing musical pieces from Mozart, Handel, Rutter, Stainer, Duruflé, Rachmaninoff, Palestrina and two Maltese composers, Carmelo Scerri and Joseph Vella. The choir will be accompanied by two soloists, soprano Rosabelle Bianchi and baritone Charles Buttigieg, who will be singing duets and solo pieces as well as pieces with the choir, ranging from The Lord's Prayer by Malotte to Panis Angelicus by Franck and other musical pieces. Mercy, which will be the central theme of the concert, lies at the very centre of God's saving activity. For this reason, it is pivotal to the Church's mission and lies at the core of any priestly vocation.
