Key areas of cooperation between Malta and Kosovo: the economy, trade and security

President of the Republic of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga this afternoon spoke of key areas of cooperation between Malta and Kosovo such as the economy, trade, rule of law and security.

Talk of a double taxation agreement between the two countries appears to be in the pipeline, which allows for the exchange of financial information, facilitates the avoidance of double taxation and prevents tax avoidance.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and President Jahjaga were addressing a joint press conference after a number of official events throughout the day.

Expanding cooperation in the areas of trade, the economy and the free movement of people were highlighted as top priorities for bilateral relations between the two states.

President Jahjaga thanked Malta for being one of the first countries to recognise and acknowledge Kosovo as an independent state. She made special reference for Kosovo to contribute towards global security and the fight against extremism.

Malta's intentions to assist and support Kosovo's road to EU accession was confirmed by President Coleiro Preca. She said that Malta has much to offer Kosovo in terms of institution building and looks forward to further cooperation.

President Coleiro-Preca and Jahjaga this morning attended the signing of a MOU between the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and the Economic Chamber of Kosovo.

They also addressed and attended a domestic abuse forum at the Verdala Palace, entitled 'sexual violence in conflict and beyond.'
