Marlene Farrugia urges Labour MPs to speak up publicly against corruption

Independent MP Marlene Farrugia this morning urged her former colleagues on the Labour side to speak up against corruption, saying that the "Labour Cabinet and Labour Party leadership" should be cleaned of whoever abused.

Writing on Facebook, Dr Farrugia said that after 25 years in opposition and the building of a Labour Movement that led to a historic victory in 2013, "we should not allow the government to continue to break up because of the greedy and capricious few who have embarrassed their parliamentary colleagues."

Dr Farrugia had resigned from Labour in November, and when interviewed at the time she had said that she knew fellow Labour MPs shared her views on what is wrong with Labour, yet were afraid to speak up.

This morning, once again she encouraged them to do so.

"There are people who are capable of leading the party, government and country on the democratic and transparent lines we had promised in the election manifesto which convinced people to vote for us.

"Whoever loves the country and Labour Movement should refuse to continue to form part of the current Cabinet unless it is cleaned up.

"My colleagues, wake up and don't be afraid. Say in public what you are saying in private to ensure that what was promised to the people is given to them – a clean, transparent and exemplary government.

"A clean-up at the OPM and Cabinet will guarantee another Labour victory in the next election," she wrote.
