Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party Beppe Fenech Adami has not yet published his VAT receipts or invoices of works on his home in Gharghur where he built a third floor, a Labour press release issued this afternoon said.
He has not done this even though one week ago Economy Minister Chris Cardona challenged Dr Fenech Adami to remove any doubts from the public's mind that he received the extension permit through personal favours.
The PL challenged him to be transparent and publish the following information today; the name of the contractor who specifically carried out works on him home, as well as any subcontractors which may have been employed by the original, the amount paid for these works, and the VAT receipt showing the amount paid for works on his home
The PL continued by saying that if Dr Fenech Adami does not public this "basic" information, nobody could fault them for assuming that the deputy leader has something to hide.
The party questioned Dr Fenech Adami's hesitance on publishing the above information and whether he would be "using this week to skirt around evidence that has already been put forward."
It affirmed that the "scandal" surrounding Dr Fenech Adami's residence is "without a doubt abuse of power and favouritism."
In 2006, "the Palace of Beppe, built on ODZ land and placed within the art rationalisation scheme" made the deputy leader a millionaire overnight, the PL said.
In 2007, "MEPA applied so that the Palace of Beppe can grow." In 2008, then Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi wrote to MEPA to revoke the request made by all applicants requested build another floor to their residences, the PL said. In the same letter, Prime Minister Gonzi confirmed that accepting the application of Dr Fenech Adami would breach a decision made by their own Cabinet, it continued.
A few days later, "Prime Minister Gonzi confirmed the decision communicated in the letter aforementioned letter."
They concluded by saying that there are a number of illegalities on the property of Dr Fenech Adami.
