President urges politicians to stop dragging feet on constitutional reform

Politicians should stop dragging their feet when it comes to Constitutional reform, President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said today. Addressing a conference organised by law students on Constitutional reform, PresidentColeiro Preca said political parties needed to stop talking about reform and act on it. "It is not enough that political parties say there is a need for reform. They choose to drag their feet instead of working together." She warned that people would start losing faith in institutions if Constitutional reform was not taken seriously. The President said that academic debate on the need for such reform was important, as "unfortunately" the discussion was still being led by politicians. Constitutional reform would herald the next steps towards strengthening democracy, Ms Coleiro Preca said.
