Car Park 4 at the University will as from tomorrow be reserved for students who will take up a car pooling scheme that has been launched by the University Students' Council (KSU).
The car park, situated next to the University Quadrangle, will be reserved for these students between 7am and 1pm, KSU president Rebecca Micallef said.
The idea is to reduce the number of cars on university campus, given the limited number of spaces. There are more than 10,000 students who attend University.
The conditions to use this reserved car park are that cars must have at least two passengers and, along with the parking permit that the driver will have, one of the passengers must also carry their parking permit with them. So the new security guard, who will be employed solely to regulate entry into Car Park 4, will be making sure that people benefitting from the scheme are actually adhering to the conditions.
Ms Micallef spoke about how the initiative will not only attempt to begin to tackle the parking problem. This is a new way for students to make new friends and share petrol expenses, as well as possibly reducing the traffic problem in general.
