Police raid Construct Furniture offices

Computers and documents were seized by the police during a search at the offices of Construct Furniture in connection with the inquiry into the death of 17-year-old employee Matthew Bartolo. Sources told the Times of Malta the police were accompanied by court experts. Mr Bartolo, from Kirkop, died last June 4 at Construct Furniture's factory at Ħal Farruġ, in the limits of Luqa. At the time he was operating a woodworking machine used to manufacture doors. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from grievous injuries but died shortly after he was admitted. When contacted, a spokes-man for Construct Furniture said such a police search was standard procedure. The aim of the search was for the police to compile any information considered relevant and preserve the evidence. It would have been "surprising" had this not happened, he said. While the raid at the Construct Furniture offices was in progress, the police simultaneously searched the offices of a person who works for the company.
