Two Eritrean men ended up in court this morning, accused of using false passports to enter Malta via Sicily. Tesfay Gebrebirhan Anda, 29, pleaded guilty to the charges while Mhretab Zeru, 22, pleaded not guilty, protesting that he was not aware that the passport was false. Mr Anda was sentenced to one year imprisonment suspended for three years. Prosecuting officer Frankie Sammut assured Magistrate Doreen Clarke that the Eritrean would be repatriated without delay. Legal aid lawyer Joseph Ellis did not request bail for Mr Zeru, and the Eritrean was remanded in custody.
