A big national fair will for the third successive year be held at Montekristo Estate, with organisers saying they have obtained all the necessary permits. Fiera l-Kbira management denied rumours that the fair would not be taking place, saying in a statement that the event would go ahead as planned between 7 and 17 July. A tussle over permits had made the news last year after the Planning Authority had objected to the event, noting that Montekristo Estate, owned by construction magnate Charles Polidano, was the subject of several enforcement orders. Event organisers said that they, together with Montekristo Estate management, "have been collaborating with local authorities to address the several aspects of the fair, such as permits, traffic management and health and safety regulations." They added that they had obtained a trading licence and that "collaboration [with authorities] is ongoing." Il-Fiera l-Kbira will feature over 200 exhibitors.
