Migration and maritime issues on the forefront of the Maltese Presidency in 2017

Minister for European Affairs Louis Grech, this morning met with the Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union Jeppe TranholmMikkelsen to discuss the preparations involved for the Maltese Presidency of the European Union in 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister Grech said the European Union is passing through a very delicate stage especially because of migration issues and the UK membership.

He explained that the Maltese Presidency should focus on issues which are really affecting the European people.

Migration, maritime and energy will be on the forefront of the Maltese Presidency agenda.

Louis Grech was accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds Dr Ian Borg.

Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union Jeppe TranholmMikkelsen said the Valletta Summit on Migration was successful and has no doubt that the Maltese Presidency will be fruitful as well.
