Żejtun war victims to be remembered

Żejtun council will be commemorating World War II victims of the May 2, 1942 tragedy, which happened opposite Żejtun parish church, today at 11.30am on the church parvis. During this commemoration there will be literature writings and an exhibition featuring the war victims. The year 1942 was the worst year in the war for Malta, when Nazi and Fascist forces based in Sicily carried out non-stop air raids. On the morning of May 2, an anti-personnel bomb hurled by a Junker 88 fell right in the centre of the church parvis. The façade of the church parvis still carries the scars of the splinters from the bomb. The memorial for the Żejtun war victims carries the names of the 27 who fell on that particular day.
